The Witness from Braid has been officially announced to be released console exclusively for the Playstation 4 console at the February 20th Meeting. Johnathan Blow, Braid creator, revealed it among the other more “action-y” games with a little bit of self-deprecation since it does not contain “explosions” like so many other games did, but that doesn’t make The Witness any less of a highly-anticipated game.
For years, The Witness has been in development with small demos of it being released in various formats – but it was never before mentioned that it will ONLY be on the Playstation 4 console and no other console (of course, this does not mean it won’t be on PC, but Playstation 4 is the only console that will feature the game).
Johnathan Blow said that this game will feature a unique open world – it’s not “too big” but rather it is “compact” – a dense experience. Within 20 seconds of where you are, there would be about 3 or 4 different paths you can take or puzzles you can accomplish – and everything exists in the game for a reason.
Check out the video footage from the February 20th meeting:
The Witness may be lacking in explosions but this open world puzzle game will remind many players of the very popular game Myst. Players will be able to walk around the world and manipulate objects to accomplish different goals. Puzzles are hidden all around the game but if they are solved properly, new things open up or new puzzles become available.
Below is the official trailer for The Witness.
The Witness is expected to launch with the Playstation 4 console during the 2013 holiday season, but there is no more information available as to the exact date of release or its price at this time. Stay tuned and we will update as more information becomes available.
