Sony Playstation PSP Phone (Coming soon?)

Sony Playstation PSP Phone can be coming real soon… The Sony Playstation PSP Phone is a popular Sony rumor has been that there will someday (soon?) be a hand held device very similar to that of the PSP, but with one big twist. This new PSP device will also act as a cell phone.

The most recent fuel for this rumor has come from Japan’s Nikkei Business Daily, stating that Sony is currently looking into opening department stores with the intention of selling  cell phones, game gear, and hybrid devices.

After the amazing success of the Apple iPhone it is no wonder that Sony would want a piece of the market, but how many people would really convert their cell phones to a game gear hybrid device (I know I would). The majority of the popular Iphone apps are games, this shows that the market is indeed ready for this type of product, but can Sony pull it off?

More than a rumor…

Hideki Komiyama, president of Sony Ericsson, was qouted as stating that the Playstation phone could be a possibility if the Playstation Team and Ericsson could work togther, although he was also quick to state that it was unlikely the technology necessary for such a device was available.

Although neither company was willing to commet further on the existence or progress of the Sony PSP Phone.

This is likely to be Sony’s major step into bringing up the validity and market share of the portable gaming industry. While the current PSP is slowing losing ground to Iphone apps and other mobile technology will this be how Sony steps up to the plate?
