PS4 to Follow Xbox 720 in 2012

Some new info has hit the web. Yeah, it’s probably a rumor, but one of these days one of these rumors will be true. Hopefully.

It has been said that the Xbox 720–codenamed “Project Ten”–will release for next years holiday season (one year from now exactly). Yes, we know the Xbox 720 is being worked on, but in order for this to be true, the Xbox 720 must be revealed at CES or E3 next year. So we’ll know by June!

Another rumor about the Xbox 720 is that it will have an integration that matches Apple. It would sync up Windows from PCs and phones, which the Xbox 360 cannot allow at the moment. It’d have more of a “Cloud” capability.

But what does this mean for the PS4?

There’s been hints from Sony PlayStation that the PlayStation 4 will follow Xbox 720. In fact, they actually said they will not let the Xbox 720 release without the PS4 there. They learned their mistakes when they waited too long after the Xbox 360 released before they released the PS3. Sales took a major hit because people had already just purchased a new console. For the PS4 to be a success, it must come out at the same time as the Xbox 720.

So, since we assume that if the Xbox 720 releases next year, they will have an E3 unveiling in June 2012; that means Sony would also unveil the PS4 in E3!

But, it’s another rumor. Don’t get your hopes up. Just keep your ears (well, technically eyes) open for the latest news.

PlayStation Teaser Trailer Revealed!

Alright: everyone was wrong about that mystery video clip that Sony posted online last week. Yes, the one that had all the different gaming characters with date 10.5.11 (today) on it.

Well, the full trailer has released, and everyone was wrong! It isn’t an announcement about anything, really, except for an official ad for the PlayStation 3 price drop to $249.

What is the point of the trailer? Well, if you watch it below, you’ll see. The goal of the video is to make you, the player, feel like the real hero: you are the only variable in each game, the true hero that makes the game-heroes successful. It’s actually quite brilliant, in our opinion.

We play games to feel excitement, to challenge our minds with strategy, to immerse ourselves into different worlds and time eras. We play war heroes during the 40s, flaming clowns, Greek warriors, timeless assassins, and so many more. We control the world of the heroes; therefore we are the ultimate hero.

Okay, I’ll admit: I’m a little disappointed that they weren’t talking about the PS4. But whatever! I still dig the video.

October 5: The Big PlayStation Announcement

Sony really has gotten our curiosity piqued when they launched a teaser trailer recently.

This video (which can be found below) shows so many anachronisms. It shows WWII fighters entering a castle, but inside it is a tavern. Then we see modern and future looking weapons (like Ratchet’s Omni-wrench, FFXIII Lightning’s Sword, Resistance LAARK). We also see the Latin phrase “Vivat Ludus Long” which means “Long Live Play”, the PS motto. The Sweet Tooth ice cream truck hangs outside the castle, the Resistance song blares in the background. We see a PS logo, PaRappa the Rapper, the LittleBigPlanet bubble used as money, and then a date: October 5, 2011.

So what the heck are they talking about?

Okay, there are three possible options for what they are going to announce.

1) I was thinking that perhaps this is a Super Smash Bros. type of game. Maybe they are taking all of the best characters from theĀ  most popular game and making social games with all of them. This would make sense….I guess.

2) PS Vita official release date in US. Maybe.

3) PlayStation 4. Highly unlikely…but. Who knows.

I’m dying of curiosity. What do you think this means?
