Recently in an interview the head of Microsoft Game Studios mr. Phil Spencer himself claimed there were NO plans for a new generation of Xbox consoles, and that the Xbox 720 was purely rumor… Phil Spencer also stated that the new motion control system soon to be released would INDEFINITELY expand the lifespan of the Xbox console… Which to be honest is impossible, how can anyone state that any console would never need to be updated, now were not saying they are planning the Xbox 720 but certainly they will need to launch a future console someday…

A quote from Phil Spencer

“We instead want consumers and developers to know that we are all going to make a huge return on that original investment in the hardware – the one Microsoft made in building it, the one developers made in making games for it, and the investment consumers made in buying the console. In the current climate that’s something people are going to appreciate much more.”

With all that said, its illogical to assume they are telling the truth when they say they wont need another console ever, just that they are unwilling to commit to anything now… And remember when a new console is on the way (which is currently unlikely from microsoft) they will still be denying it.

What do you think? Is the xbox 720 on indefinite hold?

Are the next gen console PS4 or Xbox 3 really coming soon?
In this age of gaming wars where companies fight for the supremacy of the gaming industry, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have been competing. These companies have been trying hard to woo the consumers with variety of features. In addition, most of all the age of integration has come now with adding of more than one device into the other. Gadgets are made such that they perform works of other gadgets too.
For example the PlayStation 3 which is a gaming rig and a technology marvel is made for killer graphics and excellent performance. Apart from that, a blu ray drive is integrated into it so that it can be used as a blu ray player eliminating the need to buy a standalone blu ray drive. A 160 gb hard disk is also added in the drive so that one can save photos , videos, songs and others. In Wii, you have card reader so that one can connect media to the console and use it as a media player. Xbox console is the best ever online gaming device now with millions and millions of people using it for online gaming.
Millions of dollars have been diverted to the research and development of these devices over the past years where each company tried to outcast the other by improving their consoles. The playstation updated to playstation two and later on to playstation three. Xbox released a normal Xbox and then upgraded to Xbox 360. Like this the fight among these companies have brought to the best of gaming devices available now .
But since they made a trend of bring up newer consoles now and then , everyone is looking forward for a Xbox 3 and the PS4 . Though these are good enough for now, the rumors of next generation of consoles under development are creating raves.
Considering the amount of money spent on the development of these consoles the companies would not want to release out a new one they still did not capitalize much on it yet. and also this will cause a heavy pressure from the software manufacturers as all that they made for these consoles will be obsolete if a newer console comes up . so possibility of releasing a newer version of these consoles until 2012 -2013 is very meek .
Why should they release a new console when the rigs they made are good enough for some more year from now and it’s a strongly wise decision to stick to it. But then again if someone else dares to launch a new console sooner they can capitalize on that initially but sooner and later due to the completion others will also have to follow and release newer model but eventually it’s the consumer who will be happy with such kind of move than the companies.
So finally it is clear that there is as such no need to release newer models but they will certainly delay the release as long as possible . However, someone will blink first in between for sure!!
