Sony’s Personal 3D Viewer Release Date!

Remember when we were talking about the virtual reality headset? Well, it’s here, but it’s not quite what we were led to believe.

Dubbed the Personal 3D Viewer under the Sony brand (yes, surprisingly not PlayStation), the Personal 3D Viewer is a head mount display. The device is sleek and futuristic looking (Star Trek, anyone?) and offers two screens, one for each eye.

The 3D images are crisp and untouchable; the 2D graphics are concise and directly in front of you; all images resemble the big-screen when you go to the theaters, it’s so visual. The audio system provides three different areas of sound, giving you full surround-sound and placing you perfectly in the center (yes, you’ll never have to worry about where you sit in the room again).

Another cool feature? You can choose to view the movie/game only on your Personal Viewer, or you can make it play both on the Viewer as well as TV.

It’s compatible with PlayStation consoles and all TVs. Using an HDMI pass-through, you can connect to any visual device.

Instead of relying on your nose for support, this headset has two straps that go around the forehead and nape, making it a comfortable fit. No more outside world interrupting your viewing: the device completely wraps around your view-points, blocking light from your peripherals and making a seamless, completely enthralling experience while playing games or watching movies.

The kicker? The Personal 3D Viewer launches one month from today: October 26, 2011. Yes, you can get your hands on this Personal 3D Viewer in one month. That’s quick!

Right now, it is not available for pre-order. We will let you know as more information comes in. But do be aware: the Personal 3D Viewer has an astounding price of $799.99.

What do you think? Is this a wise choice for Sony? What would you want to see changed?

I think that Sony need to give the consumer a break.
Almost everything is going 3D in theworld of visualelectornics and computers.
    How much moneyis enough Sony?
Kids and young adults will always be there to buy your product.
The parts for the 3D headset could not have been the reason for your pricing so again please lower the cost so everyone can purchace and enjoy your product for years to come.
    With deep concerns Eric

$800? It’d be a cool thing to have, but good grief, that’s almost a 3D flatscreen. I think I’m going to wait for the price to go down on this before I consider buying. Most of us aren’t rich, Sony!
