Every year in Germany, the Gamescom convention is held. It’s an informational fair about video games and development, letting developers show off their newest achievements and upcoming hardware.
Gamescom begins on August 17 and ends August 21, 2011 this year, and Sony has already announced something that made more than a few rumors start spreading the internet about the PlayStation 4.
The announcement: the PlayStation 3 is having another price cut. The PS3 was dropped about two years ago to $299 for the 160GB console, costing 75% of the original price. Now, though, the price is being lowered once again, down to $249.
The $249 price is already in effect on Amazon. You can order a $249 160GB PS3 right now, or buy the 320GB PS3 with inFamous 2 for $299.
So what does this mean for PlayStation? Well, usually prices drop when a device is going to be replaced by something else, or if sales are poor. The
latter isn’t true, since Sony has been seeing profits on the PS3 for the past year finally.
It is probably Sony’s way of prepping the market for the PlayStation 4. If they want to clear out the consoles already manufactured in their warehouses to make room, then a price cut is necessary to move the PS3 off the shelves.
We’ve already speculated about the PS4 release date. Some rumors say 2012, others say 2014. Either way, that’s not too far in the future.

I think it means low prices for Christmas to boost sales. I don’t think PS4 will be announced until next year but that’s just a guess. Sony could surprise us at any time with an update I look forward to that update.
There is no way PS4 coming out anytime soon. Developer have barely tapped into the full potential of the PS3. PS3 will be around for another 5 years.
I hope the PS3 doesn’t think it can be around for another 5 years or people will hate it by then there will be XBOX 720 and Wii U#2. LOL.
Wii is certainly looking for good sales with there console being the first next generation console. ^_^!
to be honest i hope they dont bring it out for a good 2 years yet, there no way people gonna be happy buyin a ps3 now when the ps4 is around the corner and ist not like there really gonna be bettering the graphic content of the ps3 i dont see the need for the new playstation not yet
I certainly agree with Daniel. PS3 hasn’t reveal it’s full potential yet. And what else can beat the graphic of HD? Unless you would like to wear 3D glasses everytime you play a game. Anyhow I still feel that HD is alot better than 3D since 3D can causes alot of dizziness to some people like me.
Wait 1 or 2 years as I believe many people are aspiring to buy playstatijon 3
Charles I think you and Daniel are both right about the PS3 and the graphics not being fully taken advantage of with the 1080p and all, but “what could be better than HD” is a silly question. UHD is the next step. 4k and 5k, and beyond. If you don’t know what that means, it’s about 4 times the resolution in vertical lines that 1080p is. 1080p is 1920×1080, while 4k is 4096×3112 when appropriately displayed. TV’s can’t handle that, YET…. but the RED ONE cmaera and the RED Epic are able to both shoot 5k and now they’re looking at going all the way to 8k… so as far as resolution goes, graphics will be able to a lot better soon. Plus with micro laser processing making it possible to go up to 40ghz, who knows what the future will hold as far as graphics go.
Charles: Are u serious? The graphic of HD? There’s nothing special about that. Most PS3 games run at 720p. That’s 1280×720. Most PC games have been playing games at resolutions higher than that for quite a long time.
Actually the ps3 is begginning to see the peak of its sales. The ps4 will be out sometime around spring 2013. Plus you need to remember the ps2 still out sold the ps3 when it was first released so naturally the ps3 will out sell the ps4 for like the first year. ive had my ps3 for 5 years and im ready for a new console.
“Developer have barely tapped into the full potential of the PS3″
You guys do realize developers have to tone the games down for console ports right? This is because the ps3 has a graphics card equivalent to the 7900GT. This is entry level hardware compared to the PCs. So yes, they do need to release a new PS version.
