If you were one of the people who were hoping that Sony would update the PlayStation 4 firmware so that you would be able to turn the LED light that is on your DualShock 4 Controller, don’t throw away your masking tape cover just yet. Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment, kept things simple and straight to the point when he was asked the question.
As we noted a couple of days ago there have been some complaints about the Sony PS4 DS4 Controller not holding charge as well as the DS3 did. Some gamers suggested that turning the light off should help with battery life on the controller but Yoshida answered saying, “The LEDs do not use much battery.”

For people who have reflective televisions or maybe darker rooms, I know you might find the light irritating but it seems that you will just have to deal with it at this point, for those who are concerned about it eating your battery; you have nothing to worry about. Removing the light bar on the DS4 Controller wouldn’t save any more battery than removing the LED light on the DS3 Controller would, so when Sony is working on extending battery life on the controller they probably won’t start here.
For those who find the light annoying, head out to your local hardware store and pick up a roll of black masking tape, it will do the job pretty well.
