A new report suggests that Sony’s PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset will be revealed at GDC 2014 next month. The conference begins on March 17th and will be held in San Francisco, TechRader reported that the highly anticipated virtual reality device will formally be announced here.
Like the Oculus Rift VR device, the PlayStation 4 VR headset will wrap a pair of screens onto the gamers head. Unlike Oculus though, Sony is expected to have already perfected the device to the extent that there will not be a need to release multiple hardware versions.
“Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it,” a source said. “People will definitely be impressed with what Sony’s built.”
We reported the news of a PlayStation 4 Virtual Reality headset sometime last year; we thought back then that it would be destined for a Gamescom 2013 reveal.
The revealing of the device was pushed though, into 2014, now reportedly at the GDC 2014; which isn’t too far away.
When Sony’s Worldwide boss Shuheu Yoshida was questioned about the device last year he had a simple answer: “We don’t talk about that.”
