The PlayStation 4 has been released for almost a month now in North America and about 2 weeks in Europe. In that time the share function on the PS4 has streamed over 20 million hours of PS4 gameplay.
This was confirmed by the company on the PlayStation Blog. These numbers equate to 800,000 individual videos and 7.1 million spectate sessions. The share menu on the PS4 has been used 10.9 million times since its launch.
According to Twitch, the console has been consuming 10% of all of its broadcasts based on an average minutes broadcast, since the console has launched in North America. Ustream has reported an average of 31 minutes per stream for streams from the PS4. The top streamed games on the system are; Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Killzone: Shadow Fall as expected.
The share function on the PlayStation 4 is totally free, all you have to do to access it is press the share button on your Dual Shock Controller. The console is said to have sold 2.1 million units so far and Sony says that this is the most successful PlayStation launch in history.
“PlayStation 4 is specifically designed so people can share their gaming experiences and interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations,” president of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida said in a press statement. “We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years.”
Sony says they are planning to archive Twitch live streams through the PS4 in the near future.
