Update: The PlayStation 4 has been sold out just about everywhere! So far, it is nearly impossible to get your hands on one. If you find out, pick it up before they run out!
SonyPS4.com has been following the PlayStation 4 rumors and news since the launch of the PlayStation 3, and now the new Playstation 4 console has been announced! Check out some of the recent information on the upcoming next-generation console.
High-powered gaming is what we expect from this next-gen console, and it looks like the Sony Playstation 4 will deliver! The new console will come with 8 GB unified memory, a local storage hard drive (likely size dependent on the packages they release), an x86 CPU Processor, 8 CPU cores, an enhanced PC GPU, blu-ray disc support, and a supercharged PC architecture. With all of these features combined, Playstation 4 promises to be a strong, powerful, and heavy-hitting gaming system!
The prototype for the Sony Playstation 4 controller by Destructoid has been confirmed! This new Dual Shock 4 Controller has many new features, while still maintaining the classic feel, touch, and buttons of the classic Playstation controller. Between its new features and its classic features, it promises to deliver excellent game play.
In addition to the traditional D-Pad, analog sticks, shoulder buttons, and classic Playstation buttons, the Dual Shock 4 controller will feature a touch pad which can be used to control camera angles or other aspects of game play. It will also feature a 3.5 MM headphone jack so you can use a headset to talk and interact with other players.
The Dual Shock 4 controller will also feature a Share button which will enhance the gaming experience by leaps and bounds! No more will the “screenshot” be the method of sharing our video game experience – now you can simply click “Share” during game play (this will pause your game) and share something you just did in the game. Your video will upload in the background while you keep playing so that you can share it with other players!
Another exciting feature of the Dual Shock 4 controller is the move sensor/light bar. With this sensor on the top of the controller (front-facing), along with a peripheral stereo camera for your system, your Playstation 4 can track your movements for a more interactive game play than what you would get with your traditional controller.
The last major feature of the Dual Shock 4 controller is the suspend/resume button! Now you don’t have to worry about pausing the game, saving the game, or even shutting off the system – click Suspend and both your game and the Playstation 4 will go idle – click Resume, and the game will pick up just where you left off!
This is what everyone has been dying for! The new Playstation 4 will be able to process things in the background so it doesn’t slow down your game play! If you are downloading a game or update, it will start the download, but you can then start playing as it completes the download in the background – giving you free access to your game without interruption! It will also be able to upload your shared videos in the background as well so you do not have to wait for an upload to complete before you can resume game play.
Playstation 4 is following the modern trend of more social interaction with our technology by focusing more on the social aspects of gaming. Not only can you easily share video clips of what you are doing in a game with your friends, but you will be able to have an entire social profile and network of friends that you can interact with!
Beyond just the “simple” actions of sharing with your friends, you will be able to actively see what your friends are doing in live time, “spectate” on their games (or the games of others in your network) to see what they are doing, or even jump in to take over the controller of your friend to help them (with their permission, of course). If a friend is struggling with an aspect of the game, you will be able to actually help them in ways never before thought possible.
Playstation 4 “Everything Everywhere”
Sony said that Playstation 4’s major motto is “Everything Everywhere” – and that is truly what they want to have happen here! With the combination of the Playstation Cloud and the PS Vita, Playstation 4 is working to have all PS1, PS2, PS3, and Playstation Mobile games available through both the Playstation 4 and through the PS Vita by remote control. You will also be able to switch your game from the Playstation 4 console onto the PS Vita – allowing someone else to use the TV or allowing you to take your game on the move with you!
There is much to look forward to over the next few months as we get more information on what the Playstation 4 Console will look like, what other features it will have, and what games will be made available when it first comes out. Stay tuned for more information on the Playstation 4’s development and news!
