The Playstation 4 is rumored by many to be the first next generation console to be released.
John Carmack American game programer and co-founder of id Software states:
The whole jockeying for who's gonna release next gen console first is very interesting and really divorced from the technical side of things. Whether Sony wants to try and jump the gun to, you know, to prevent the same kind of 360 lag from happening to them again seems likely. As developers, we would really like to see this generation stretch as long as possible, you know, we'd like to see it be quite a few more years before a next-gen console comes out, but I suspect someone will wind up shipping something earlier rather than later.

John Carmack is speaking in reference to what the race to put out the next console, primarily between Microsoft and Sony. Sony had suffered greatly during the previous launch, the launch of the Playstation 3, due to the Xbox 360 having launched just before.
The best thing for the game creators would be to remain on a single console for as long as possible, giving them a better chance to further their experience and ability in developing better games. More time on the Playstation 3 means the developers will have more time to launch games for it, and more time for the console to gain market share. But Sony can not afford to launch after Xbox, and Xbox knows they need the early launch to stand out... so someone is likely to jump the gun.
One benefit of the Playstation 4 launching early is that it could easily launch with and without the Blu-Ray, giving consumers the chance to purchase the new console for much less, and give the developers the ability to develope on a much less expensive platform. At this point it is unknown what console will be the next to launch, and the first of the next generation consoles, everything is a rumor or spectulation... But it is belived by many that Playstation 4 will lead the way.

you wanna know WHO will make the next generation console?
the answer is WII!!!!!!!!!!the wii created the motion control remote, it made a tiny avatar miis, and it will definatly make a new console!
WII is the winner. And it will bit PS4 in the future.
It’s kinda stupid to say that there could be a “NON BLU-RAY VERSION” since blu-ray is the only type of media capable of handling the storage capacity that would be required by a “PS4″. That’s just not an option, and by the time such a system launches, blue-ray players will be relatively inexpensive, I mean they’ve already considerably dropped in price in just the last year or so since HD-DVD met it’s end. So there will NEVER be a “NO BLU-RAY” option
the we blows ass unless you like crapy graphics and a system built for 5 to 13 year olds! thats and they cheap cuz they suck thats why they sell cause they are cheap and games cost like 40 bucks the ps2 is the same wii is point less with out the HD no one 15 and up would want to play wii one they single out first person shooters and when they do try to make them the controls suck along with the graphics ppl want something that supprizes them not something that bores them!
WII, YEA RIGHT, THE PS4 IS GOING TO COME OUT WAY BEFORE A WII 2 OR WHATEVER NAME THEY WILL GIVE IT.
That is one way to look at it, the other is the ability of small drives such as thumb drives or the online structure that could support constant downloading of games with no physical merchandise… there are lots of options available for Sony, I would not count on anything specific just yet.
im struggling to come up with the funds to buy a psp ps4 is in no way on my radar lol
the “wii” is for babies.and xbox 360 might have more games than the ps3 but ps3′s games are sooooooo much better!
Well as long as the PS4 is backwards compatible. My original PS3 crapped out – I had to get a new PS3 that wasn’t backwards compatible. I thought maybe my PS2 would still work for my PS2 games, but it’s performance has been weak as well. It sucks when you make a decision to a brand and they’re not always there for you — yet, they won’t to continue having you as their customer. What am I suppose to do with all my PS2 games now? Doorstop?
the wii is the shit
Im avid fan on sony gaming. I own two ps3′s both fat and slim. Also, iown the psp go and psp 3000. The one thing ive learned is that it doesnt matter when a system is released because shortly afterwords you can get it much cheaper and much easier. I’ll be playing my ps3 and psp go when the ps4 drops until it drops price.
PS4? bah! too early
PS3 is where its at!
There are still so many amazing games yet to be launched for the playstation 3, its gonna be the hot ticket for a long time!

Actually it’s possible that the ps4 could fail to include an optical drive altogether and offer strictly downloadable content. Nice attempt at sounding intelligent though.
Sony has, since the development of the Blu-Ray, gone far beyond what was expected in terms of storage area on an individual Blu-Ray disk, so it is very likely (especially at this point) they the Playstation 4 will have a Blu-Ray player.
We are likely a couple of console generations from (or maybe a new console company will come and introduce) the introduction of a gaming system that is solely based on downloadable games. Sony has officially released that this will not be the case for the Playstation 4. Too many of the “blockbuster games” need the physical delivery system and distribution to have the sales necessary to afford the development (think Final Fantasy and other big time game brands/franchises) however the number of downloadable games is expected to increase substantially with the Playstation 4
Right now sony has so much more time to spare they still have more big tiltles this way like GOD OF WAR3 OR GRAND TURISMO 6 I WOULD LOOK FOWARS TO SEEYING THE NEXT CONSLE IN 2012 OF COURSE YOU GUYS NO WHEN THIS COMES OUT IT WILL BE 600$OR MORE IM LOOKING FOWARD TO BUYING ONE THEN PUTING THAT SHIT ON EBAY THE FIRST DAY IT COMES OUT THEN GET ONE OF MY OWN
Sorry guys, the PS4 will be the last console to come out, As the most expensive console on the market its here to stay, until some really revolutionary (onlive -like) technology comes out.
Meanwhile Xbox will come out in early 2012 boasting some other gimmick feature.
Its price will temporarily more that the PS3 slim but the differences between the consoles being minimal will lead people to the PS3.
Late (Christmas time) 2013 the PS4 will ship, out classing both the PS3 and the ‘Xbox 361′ with better implemented 3D and online and community features.
Watch out for the wii mini.
microsoft right now is ahead of sony u can rip cds, play better games with better grapics that u can play online, the games give u a reason 2 play ur best and/or over and over because of the achivements and u also got netflix if u are a betting person bet on xbox 2 win the gameing war they cant b touched
Playstation is the best gaming console that i have owned. Me and my brother are addicted in playing games on Playstation. Will be rocking this console for the next decade easily.
I hope this is true. I love my playstation 2 & PS3 and still play them often, so I can’t wait to see what the PS4 will bring to the table! I’m also really interested to see what happens with the blu-ray player in the PS4, that has been the main topic I have been hearing about…
After Sony cheating its first customers paying 600+ dollars for a linux enabled console (with cancelling Linux support with its 3.15+ version upgrades) I know many customers would hesitate paying a lot of money for a console from Sony again…..
Waiting for the results of the class action legal suit
the PS4 will use an HVD player not Blu-Ray. HVD stands for holographic versatile disc and it Blu-Ray x100 look it up
