It has been officially confirmed that the prototype image leaked by Destructoid is the official Sony Playstation 4 controller!
This new DualShock 4 controller has some excellent new features that will definitely make the gaming experience more enjoyable and more interactive, but Sony did not get rid of any of the old features that we have become familiar with over the years. It looks like Sony is really going to deliver everything we have been asking for when it comes to the new Playstation 4 Next-Generation Console.
Touch Pad Screen
The new touch pad screen on the front of the DualShock 4 controller will allow the player to do a variety of things, such as control the camera angle during game play. Other things may come up as we get closer to E3 2013 so that we can see more of what this touchpad can really do to enhance gameplay.
Motion Sensor/Light Bar
Another new feature of the DualShock 4 controller is a motion sensor/light bar at the front facing portion of the controller (that would face the TV during play). This light bar will allow the player to interact more directly with the system in conjunction with a stereo camera peripheral – allowing the game to see the movement of the controller in a way that the previous Playstation controllers never could. No “wand” is going to be needed for the system to see your movement.
One of the best features of the new controller is the Share button!! This amazing button will let you instantly pause the game, review the last few moments of what happened in the game, save them as a video, and upload them to share with your friends and network. It will even upload the video in the background so you can go right back to playing after you selected your footage for sharing! No more will players have to take screenshots of a game or try to record game action in other ways – the controller and the system will instantly let you create videos of what you do in the game and let you share them with everyone
3.5 MM Headphone Jack
This new controller will feature a built in headphone jack that will let you plug your headphone directly into the controller so you can both hear and speak directly from the controller. This will be most beneficial in competitive gaming where you work with a team or compete against other players.
Last (but not least) is the Suspend/Resume button. This new feature will instantly put the game and the Playstation 4 console into “idle” mode exactly where it is – and you can then click “Resume” to start the game and console back up to exactly where you left it! No need to power down, no need to pause and save. You have instant access to stop and resume the game at your fingertips.
