PlayStation 3D Monitor Unveiled

This has been a big year for Sony. The tsunami affected their business, the PS3 started turning a profit, their Network got hacked, and they
unveiled the PS Vita at E3.
This holiday season, Sony will release some new products with the PlayStation logo. First, of course, is the Vita.
Next, and probably the most boring, was a cheaper version of 3D glasses.
Last but definitely not least (I was shocked by this one, I have to say): the PlayStation 3D Monitor.
The monitor allows for 3D game play via glasses (they say they prefer functionality and
specs over glasses-less gaming). But more than that, and probably one of the best features, is the ability to play split-screen—and still see a full screen.
That’s right! Now we’ll be able to play with a friend and not worry about seeing only half the screen. Since the 3D technology uses two overlapping images to produce the 3D effect, the split screeners have their images on top of each other, but the glasses will only see one. Yes, it means split-screening is in 2D, but still: that’s freaking awesome.
I’m probably not the only one who had to buy a separate console and TV to game. This would have saved me so much money it isn’t even funny.
But the downfall? There are 24 inches of them. The monitor they plan to release during holiday season 2011 is only 24 inches, which means most of our desktop monitors are actually bigger (and the two TVs I have for gaming are way bigger: smallest is 40” and the other is 42”).
I assume they will release larger models as time goes on. Firstly, though, is the 24-inch, which will release for $499 in a bundle with glasses ($70 separately), HDMI, and Resistance 3.
So what about you? Do you plan to get a PS 3D Monitor when it releases? What about the size?
