PreOrder PlayStation Vita

So it’s official: you can now pre-order your own PS Vita.
It’s only been a week since 2011 E3, where the PlayStation Vita was officially revealed after being called NGP or PSP2 for so long. We already knew what the Vita looked like, with a touch-pad back and multi-touch screen front. They added a camera in front and back, and these can interpret information from your real-life surroundings and face and add them to certain games. That’s why it’s called Vita, Latin for life: it supposedly augments life and gaming into a new experience.
This new twist on portable gaming platforms was exciting for us. I pre-ordered mine last week–hopefully I’m not the only one who remembers how the Wii was so hard to get a hold of after launch, and Sony is planning a phased release of the Vita. For a planned launch in holiday season 2011, I’m a little nervous that any will be on the market.
The PS Vita promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen so far in the portable platform world. I, for one, can’t wait, despite the AT&T network.
PlayStation Vita Trailers

Released the day of their press conference at E3, Sony PlayStation released this trailer about the PS Vita (below it is a quick video showing highlights from the press conference). After all the rumors raging around the internet about the name, I’m surprised they didn’t actually mention it (especially because after negative comments about the Arc, they changed that name to Move).
Many people weren’t too enthused about the name Vita, but it’s grown on me, personally. Maybe that’s from years of Latin classes (it means Life, BTW). At first, it seemed they were trying a little too hard. Now?
I’m digging it.
It looks exciting, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. I’ll probably preorder it next paycheck.
What about you?

NGP Officially Named PS Vita

It’s pretty much official: the NGP will be called the PS Vita or Playstation Vita.
There have are been rumors flying around for days about the new name, like the proofs that showed up on a blog but subsequently deleted with a: “This has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m sorry. I really am,” from Hugo Miramontes. These proofs showed in the top left the PS Vita logo in PSP font, and the actual device says “PS VITA” on the bottom.
Next proof? PlayStation’s website has a notice about the NGP being revealed at E3 2011 on June 6. The site can be found here.
With a little digging around, we pulled up the source code and found something they probably didn’t want anyone to see:
Do you see that? That is three separate times PS Vita is listed. It seems Sony got a little antsy and got the pages setup (not uploaded yet—we checked just to be sure). Now, this isn’t a direct confirmation from the mouth of Sony, but why would they prepare their website if it wasn’t as good as official?
Right before the PS Move was released, it was known as the Arc. Within the last month they changed it, so we won’t know until it is revealed.
The direct source won’t confirm it until June 6, but this surely makes it 99% likely the NGP (PSP2) will be called the PS Vita.
