PS4 might not have a cell processor

According to The Examiner, Sony has already announced that they are working on the PS4 console. Paul Holmen, the Vice President of Technology for Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe, confirmed that there will be a Playstation 4 sometime in the future. However, they might not be using the cell processor that is currently being used in the playstation 3. They are still considering their options including the multi-core processor that is normally found in a computer. There are other options that Sony is looking at right now, including modifying the current cell processor.
The cell processor in the PS3 has many advantages over other gaming systems. Using a cell processor means that multimedia and vector processing applications are much faster than other gaming systems. Despite the advantages, many of the third party developers have problems programing for the system as recently seen with Sega's release of Bayonetta port. Because of this problem, Sony is looking to be more developer friendly with the release of the Playstation 4.
Whichever way Sony goes with their new console, it will become a faster and more effecive gaming console that will be like a computer. Usually a game goes from planing to reality in two years, so the earliest that the Playstation 4 will come out is 2012.

Playstation 4 will be the first next generation console

The Playstation 4 is rumored by many to be the first next generation console to be released.

John Carmack American game programer and co-founder of id Software states:

The whole jockeying for who's gonna release next gen console first is very interesting and really divorced from the technical side of things. Whether Sony wants to try and jump the gun to, you know, to prevent the same kind of 360 lag from happening to them again seems likely. As developers, we would really like to see this generation stretch as long as possible, you know, we'd like to see it be quite a few more years before a next-gen console comes out, but I suspect someone will wind up shipping something earlier rather than later.

John Carmack is speaking in reference to what the race to put out the next console, primarily between Microsoft and Sony. Sony had suffered greatly during the previous launch, the launch of the Playstation 3, due to the Xbox 360 having launched just before.

The best thing for the game creators would be to remain on a single console for as long as possible, giving them a better chance to further their experience and ability in developing better games. More time on the Playstation 3 means the developers will have more time to launch games for it, and more time for the console to gain market share. But Sony can not afford to launch after Xbox, and Xbox knows they need the early launch to stand out... so someone is likely to jump the gun.

One benefit of the Playstation 4 launching early is that it could easily launch with and without the Blu-Ray, giving consumers the chance to purchase the new console for much less, and give the developers the ability to develope on a much less expensive platform. At this point it is unknown what console will be the next to launch, and the first of the next generation consoles, everything is a rumor or spectulation... But it is belived by many that Playstation 4 will lead the way.

All of you might have been heard of the supposed rumor of Sony entertainment company of leakage of the specs of the much hyped PS4 along with a blue print of the hardware stuff of the gaming console. Here are some of the details of the much-hyped article released by a Japanese magazine.

The play station 4 essentially will be built on the existing platform of PS3 as this will decrease the cost of production and also decrease costs on developing of newer technology. Retaining the looks of original Playstation and adding the newer technology like the CELL BROADBAND ENGINE often referred to as cell BE, play station is working on aiming more at the common gamer this time like how Wii succeeded. This will help cost cut the development of new hardware and software for the cell BE based PlayStation 4. When asked about this to Sony Entertainment Company, they simply denied these as pure rumors and said that nothing about it is true. However, the fact remains that they will be working on a PlayStation 4 idea as that is what the research and development wing is supposed to do.

The cell BE based playstation 3 has eight core processing units which give the power for the performance of the console. Now for this PS4 the leaked speculations show that there will about 32 core and that will improve the performance of the gaming engine drastically. Also the size of the cell Be which is about 90nm in the present PS3 has to shrunk to smaller size of about 45nm so that the increase in core number can still be fit in the older platform . the size of the die of CPU remains a important factor in essentially bringing down the cost of the unit. The usage of DRAM in the memory instead of the generic memory like JIREC is also considered for this.

Previously there was a rule of thumb that if you want high end gaming and best graphics one has to put in high initial investment for the console. But this was shattered when Nintendo Wii has pulled the market by a storm with its lowered priced console appealing to the casual gamers and with roaring sales. It is because of this Sony entertainment company is planning to revamp the playstation 3 and bring in a newer console that appeals to common casual gamer and also with lower cost price.

Sony has done a good job of employing in high development cost initially for the PS3 for the cell BE , as it is future proof for generations that doesn’t need new developments or put in more money into it. So now, it can easily work on the new Sony PS4 with lower cost of development.

But as such since PS3 itself didn’t reach the zenith of its sales and users , considering on the PS4 right now is not a right move if the alleged rumor is true.

Rumors are abuzz in the market that Sony is soon going to release its latest product in the gaming console line, the Sony PlayStation 4. It is confirmed the Sony is working on the new console but no one is sure about how further they have reached in the development of this new console. One piece of news is confirmed. The gaming console market has always been hot with the rivalry between Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony and in the future, all of them are going to come up with their latest products.

All these rumors don’t mean that new gaming consoles are going to be up for grabs very soon. The development process for a gaming console is a long term process and eats up a long time. There is one news that gamers may be interested in. Even before Wii was released, Nintendo had announced that they were working on the successor to the Wii!

In most high profile products, there is a huge time gap between design, implementation and commercial release. Same is the case with Sony PS4. The PS4 is in its developmental stage and one never knows how long the development process will take. Meanwhile, Sony will continue to do an extensive research on the market trends and what do consumers actually want. Releasing a product is the last stage and there are many complex processes that are followed before that. It is not just about adding together hardware and software, starting an assembly line and packaging the product. Once the design, the hardware and the developmental kits are finalized are finalized, the console can be said to be ready. But that’s not all. The operating system and its features are then finalized and the product is released to third party game developers so that when the console is finally released to the public, games are available along with the console. After the console is developed, this entire process may take about 2 years. One thing is for certain. Keeping all these points in mind, it can be safely assumed that the gaming console market is going to heat up around 2012 or 2013. It is estimated that around that time, all the three, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft will launch their new gaming consoles.

These are the days of the console cycle and the turbulent SDK will be updated at the evanescence?

Analyst Michael lessees of Wedbush Morgan has at least the spirit of this question in its May 2009 monthly summary of gaming. Moreover, said he expects the next generation of consoles until 2013 to reach. Cue spooky organ break followed in a troubling "not."

Purchase of new equipment boxes, accessories and equipment, many more plans for more security and speed of broadband and the cost of online service, Extension of the current console and cut the paper instead of Ye Olde blood exsanguinations.

4. Do not forget to rare Donkey Kong Country for Super Nintendo? More or less revolutionary for its time, was it not? There is a lot of rumors and assumptions about when the Playstation 4 will be released, some believe that it could be as soon as early 2010. Although it is believed to be highly unlikely that Sony will release the Playstation 4 with so little time left to hype it up. Personally we believe with so many rumors still circling about regarding the exact equipment and design of the Sony PS4, it is unlikely there will be a launch before 2012... although we have our fingers crossed!

The main thing that is holding off the next generation of Playstation, and the release of the Sony PS4, is the PS3. Playstation 3 was built with such amazing design, minus the few flaws associated with the Blue Ray players, the Playstation 3 is still hands down the best video game console on the market today. Producing the best and most advanced games available the Sony PS3 is going to be a hard console to top... But we know the Playstation 4 will blow it away!

Many tech gurus out there believe that it is most likely for the Playstation 4 to be released either in 2011 or 2013, for different reasons for each date. As long as there are so many rumors regarding the release date, there is nothing set in stone just yet.

There will certainly be a Playstation 4, it has been on the drawing boards since before the launch of the Playstation 3, but there is no way that Sony could have known the power and technology that would be available to them today... keeping with the trend of putting out the most impressive game consoles possible expect the Playstation 4 to blow away all expectations upon release, and surprise the computer world again with the processor speed and capabilities of yet another mind blowing console from Sony.

Rumor has it… PS4 WILL Happen

In something that appears just to taunt all of those Nay-Sayers our there, the Sony VP of Technology says that a Playstation 4 will launch, and is even being worked on now. This comes after a great amount of speculation from various online sources claiming that the management change in Sony has taken away from the possibility of a PS4. There could be happy gamers looking to pre order Playstation 4 as early as winter 2011!

VP Paul Holman also let it known that while a PS4 is in the works, there is no released design as of yet, and certainly nothing that will be released any times soon. There is still a lot of progress to be made with the PS3 in terms of usability and really taking advantage of the existing processing power, the PS3 is more of an all in one console than a gaming console, and even though it has the ability, it has yet to really make that leap in the eyes of the consumer.

But world rest assured, there will be a Playstation 4.
