So why question the authenticity of the viral videos... Well, a quote from GameInformer.com has really contributed:

Sony hardware PR representative Al de Leon broke it down for us in the simplest way possible: "I can confirm that this video is not from SCE [Sony Computer Entertainment]."

This is not something we at SonyPS4.com are really ready to accept just yet... E3 is just days away and will likely have all of the answers that we are looking for, but it is very hard to believe that these videos were created as a hoax... Before we ask you if you think the Playstation 4 videos are real, lets look at some of the facts.

1. In just 1 day the video has been viewed over 150,000 times, that leans strongly to the authenticity.
2. Sony PR rep never said that the video was a hoax, or anything really, just that "this video is not from SCE"
3. The YouTube account to that uploaded these videos only has these videos, was created shortly before uploading the first of the viral videos, and has created SCElabs's Channel on YouTube.
4. The production value of the videos seem to reach beyond what is expected or possible even possible from a non monetized hoax, the only alternative would be a hoax from an advertising company... This is certainly not that type of hoax.
5. This could likely be the perfect answer to bring a ton of much deserved attention to the Playstation 3 once the PSMove and 3d gaming is released... A faster more capable Playstation 3 console with all of these additions is at least worth a generational leap for the Playstation console... Might even give the Sony guys a reason to lower the price on the Slim PS3 again, just in time for Christmas.

Those are the top 5 reasons that we think this years E3 is going to be even more amazing than anyone had anticipated.

For us at Sonyps4.com this could not have come at a better time, we have been awaiting some real news to bring to the masses for quite some time now... and this is definitely real Playstation 4 news!

So what would Playstation be looking to release a Playstation 4 when they have just announced the Playstation Move... Well that really could be the answer all onto itself.

The PS3 console has years lets on its life cycle and is still the most technologically advanced gaming console available, and will be for the next several years. But the Playstation Move (psmove) will add a completely different type of game play, and require specific games and possible accessories... Now in this respect it is believed that the guys at Playstation have decided to merge the 2, the best console available today and the future of motion gaming and brand them as the Playstation 4.

That's at least the popular rumor at the moment, keep in mind the Playstation team while willing to leak the viral video have not explained it at all... Is that really a shock though with the E3 expo coming up on June 15th. Got to tell you, sitting here on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what the Playstation team has to say, and if they are going to shed some light on the Playstation 4 videos that were leaked, I really have a feeling they are going to be mentioning it.

If speculation was required, I would guess that the standard Playstation 3 that you have grown to know and love will be getting yet another great price break, making the most powerful console on the planet even more affordable... In addition I expect the Playstation 4 will cost some where between 300 and 400 bucks, not a bad deal considering it will have an upgraded PS3 console as well as everything necessary to utilize motion gaming (psmove and accessories) on the upgraded console, chances are they will even include a game.

The next Playstation console will indeed be the Sony Playstation 4, and we will go through a list of quotes and references that we hope will shine some light on the subject. While it is a grey area in terms of what the Playstation 4 will be capable of, the console is again referred to by a leading game resource as the Playstation 4... • In an interview with Jack Tretton, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, again the next Playstation console is mentioned by name, as the Playstation 4. "A question I often get is when we are going to see Playstation 4. When somebody can craft the technology that exceeds what we're able to do on the PS3, but we are still just starting to harness it." • Geek.com also mentions the Playstation 4 by name in referring to Cell alternatives to the Playstation 4 gaming console. While again its mostly rumors and speculation on what the Playstation 4 gaming console will offer, its again another authority in the gaming and tech industry referring to the next Playstation gaming console as the Playstation 4. • Mr. Yoshida in an interview with VideogamesZone.de, translated by Xbitlabs.com here. From the Xbitlabs.com article "Even though Mr. Yoshida did not confirm that PlayStation 4 will use Blu-ray disc or a next-generation optical format, it is highly-possible that the console due in several years will use optical discs to store huge next-generation video games." Many times during the interview Shuhei Yoshida, senior vice president of product development at Sony Computer Entertainment America, mentions the next Playstation gaming console as the Playstation 4.

There are literally thousands of references of the next Playstation console being referred to as the Playstation 4, I have tried to include only those that are the most credible, and those that can be easily referenced yourself if you choose to do so... A real big part of Sony keeping with the Playstation numbered series has to do with them maintaining the brand that they have built up since the launch of the first Playstation on December 3, 1994.

In reality we find it unlikely that Sony will ever choose to go away from the numerical naming system for the Playstation console generations. These names are just far too recognizable, and instantly associated with the gaming consoles that you are familiar with. Sony Playstation has even hinted at this with a commercial that was aired during the launch of the Playstation 2 that featured the Playstation 9.

This commercial, while possibly some what satire, really is further proof that Sony intends to stay with the Playstation numerical branding for as long as they are producing gaming systems. Dated 2078 and offering some of the most wild and futuristic technology imaginable, this advertisement goes to the merit and power of the current Playstation branding tactics.

All of this, and thousands more references throughout the internet, point to the next Playstation gaming console as being named the Playstation 4. With Sony unlikely to announce any official information regarding the Playstation 4, until just before launch, the mentioning of the console by name from Sony executives is the biggest indication so far.

The Playstation Move has been in the works for quite some time now and it is amazing so little information was leaked before the official announcement, a real credit to the Playstation team and really all of Sony. But more importantly the Playstation Move is like nothing else although it will be in direct market competition with the Wii and at some point project Natal... The Playstation Move stands alone.

Sony claimed it was all a bunch of internet rumors, and more or less ignored the fact that it was well known that the Playstation 3 was ready to reduce in size and cost. On September 1st the playstation 3 Slim will debut, a thinner console that uses less energy, and is only $299

The whole idea that Sony had thrown a blind eye to the issue was not lost on them though. One of the best commercials... of course were bias, is this one below that was launched by the Sony Ad crew, and is just awesome.

Great way for the Playstation guys to recognize, yes there are tons of rumors out there... and NO, they are not likely to be the ones to have told you first, nor will they confirm any of those rumors... The Slim Playstation 3 is a great console at a great price, is highly recomended, and is set to hit shelves Sept. 1, but untill then lets take a look at what the new Playstation 3 console is going to look like. Some of the most popular titles that Playstation gamers can download right now are  Final Fantasy VII and Battlefield: 1943, and at a much more reasonable price than they would or have been available in stores. This gives the Sony company the ability to sell their games to their players at the most reasonable prices possible, and the ability to pay developers as much as possible. No big game distributors or retail stores acting as game brokers for the public means big savings and more niche games for players everywhere.

This type of direct marketing can be exactly what Sony needs to put the Playstation back as the number one console. While the Playstation 3 is arguably a more capable console than that of it's competitors, the amount of money required to produce Playstaion 3 consoles or develop Playstation games has led to a difficult year for Sony in 2008. Sony has spent the majority of this slow economic period implementing and adding to the Playstation Network and the Playstation Store, further developing and increasing their brand, and making the first of many downloadable games.

The Playstation Store is Playstation's very own virtual marketplace available to Playstation 3 and PSP gamers, offering a full range of downloadable content for purchase and available free of charge. The downloadable content available from within the Playstation store ranges from complete games, modified games, game trailers, movies, and various tv shows, with more being added all of the time.

This new type of marketing begs the question, does Sony need the game distributors anymore?

While it is unlikely that the Playstation 4 will have no diskdrive, it is becoming more and more likely that the majority of the titles released for the future gaming consoles will be released over private networks and available for download... which I got to admit sounds nice - no more having to stand in line to reach a sold out sign! The future of gaming very well could be in downloadable game content and the Playstation Network Store, putting a lot more power back into the hands of the gamers!

Downloadable games require a far smaller investment to produce and make available to the public, just as downloadable music has opened up a more broad spectrum of music, downloadable game networks are likely increase the availablity of more interest specific games.
