The Evil Within is a return to roots horror game which is developed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami; the game will launch across all consoles and PC on August 26th, 2014 in North America. The European release of the game will follow on August 29th, 2014. The game is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, so Sony will see the game on their current gen and next gen console.s
The game is developed by Mikami’s team at Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within will be published by Bethesda Softworks, the game company that brought us Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and also owns Tango Gameworks.
The Evil Within is a game designed to make players feel completely powerless while in game. The ammo will be very scarce, the enemies won’t die very easily, and the corridors that you have to explore will be very narrow. Mikami says that all of these measures are a part of getting back to the roots of the survival horror genre.
“Really, I’m making this game just because it’s fun to scare people,” Mikami said in July. “Instead of trying to introduce new ideas, I want to return to survival horror’s roots. We’ve strayed from that. I want to explore fear again, and that sense of overcoming fear, one that’s unique to games.”
