Destiny was announced to appear on PlayStation 4 in the 2013 holiday season, as announced by Halo creator Bungie.
This announcement did not come as a surprise to many as it is already scheduled to release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well, but we will also get to see what Destiny can do on the new Playstation 4 hardware.
It is more than just a game – it’s an open world game where the players make the story as they move through the world and interact together and with the game itself.
The term flying around at this time for Destiny is a “shared-world shooter” – a game where you are online with other people playing at the same time, all of you capable of shooting and engaging with each other and the game.
Check out the trailer as shown at the PlayStation 4 February 20th meeting:
Destiny is being designed as a game that won’t require you to always be “ready for action” every time you log on. When you first start, each player would come in through their in-game home and go to the common area where they can explore surroundings and meet up with friends. They can then board ships and fly to another planet to raid territories being held by aliens.
In this way, players will be able to organically become involved in whatever they want – or they can simply keep walking around the world and ignore what other people are doing. Players may choose to fight, or may simply observe, or can go about their business with little care to what others are doing. This set up should work very well with the new PlayStation 4 features and specs.
The plan is for Destiny to span about 10 years of game play! At last, that’s the vision.
