Call of Duty: Ghosts Tops Sales Charts for PS4 in November

The PlayStation 4 launch was on November 15th, many people were waiting to see which games would sell best on the new console in the first month. While there is only sale data from November 15 onward, Sony has shared the fact that first person shooters are really like even moving into the next generation.

Sony posted the top sellers on the PSN today across all platforms, including the PS4. Just a note that these are sales made on the PSN and are not a representative of retail.

Sony divided sales into two categories on the PS4, digital upgrades and no digital upgrades. What these two categories mean is, people who upgraded from the PS3 for $10 with a voucher and the normal purchases.

In the first category Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Assasin’s Creed IV: Black Flag are atop the list. Surprisingly thought only one shooter made the top five in the second category, instead, Flower is number one, followed by Need for Speed Rivals and Battlefield 4. Call of Duty: Ghosts comes in at number 6, which probably just means that most of the game’s sales came from retail.

Sony’s first party games – Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack came in 7th and 13th place respectively. Of course this is only the digital sales, it doesn’t count towards retail, however digital is becoming the more dominant way to buy video comes as the sales have become more and more large over the past few years.

Also worth noting, the PS3 digital downloads were dominated not surprisingly by Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was in at 5th. Tearaway topped the PlayStation Vita’s charts and Ys Seven was the bestselling game on the PSP.

It would appear that Sony has been more focused on the digital because of their day 1 Digital Promotion. So it will be really nice to see how the sales data evolves on the PS4 over the next few years as more and more people leave retail to switch to digital gaming.
